Boaters Need A Comprehensive First Aid Kit!

Start with a basic kit that contains simple supplies. Amazon has a number of choices.

The basic kits, however, leave off a number of must-have items that are essential to have on-board. Add the following items to complete your kit:
- Rolled aluminum splints (2)
- Triangular bandages (3)
- Rapid Apply Tourniquet (1)
- Quick Clot powder or spray (3-5 packets)
- Butterfly bandages
- ACE-type compression wraps (multiple sizes)
- Large abdominal pad (1box)
The following items need to be included, but typically have an expiration date so rotate annually Best bought at your local drug store:
- 1 tube triple antibiotic ointment
- 1 tube 1% hydrocortisone ointment
- 25 mg diphenhydramine tablets (antihistamine)
- Loperamide tablets (anti-diarrhea medication)
- 325mg Aspirin tablets (first line heart attack medication)
- Ibuprofen AND Tylenol tablets
- sterile saline wash
- Vaseline ointment
- 2 each instant hot and cold compression packs
- Aloe Vera gel (sunburn and galley burn treatment)
Don't forget to stock your galley with the following items that can be used for medical emergencies:
- Honey
- Bullion Cubes
- Vegetable broths (if a vegetarian is on board)
- Sugar and sugar cubes (for diabetic emergencies)
- Electrolyte-type drinks (Gatorade, Powerade, etc.)
